AkashA
AkashA is a 7-piece Malaysian band, playing world fusion music with a distinctly Malaysian twist. Like Malaysia itself, AkashA is a fusion of four cultures – Malay, Indian, Chinese, and Western.
Using various instruments, the band ventures into many different genres and forms, including blues, bluegrass, latin, bossanova, middle eastern, classical, old western and Irish among others. The mission of AkashA is to dazzle, to enthrall, to delight, and to move. The music of this band brings out each individual’s inner space of creativity.

This will be AkashA’s third appearance at the JB Arts Festival, following their highly successful debut in 2009 and their equally well-received second appearance in 2010. The band is noted for its excellence in performanceship and has represented Malaysia in scores of corporate functions, world music festivals and has also garnered international invites throughout the globe. In 2011, they released their second album, “Karakoram Highway”, and performed at the Phuket Blues and World Music Festival, live in London, the Delhi International Arts Festival, and the Hong Kong World Music and Food Festival.

AkashA consists of Jamie Wilson (guitarist/composer), Kumar Karthigesu (sitar), Eric Li (piano/keyboard), Greg Henderson (bass), Sivabalan S. Shanmuga Sundram (percussions), Vick Ramakrishnan (percussions/tabla) and Mohd Shah Nizam (percussions).
