Dr. Joanne Yeoh

Dr Joanne Yeoh obtained a First Class Honours in her Degree from the University of Middlesex, United Kingdom in 1998. Upon completing her degree course, she was awarded a Luther and Ernest Gaunt Scholarship for Strings to study at the University of Leeds. During her study there, she was also chosen to receive a Foreign and Commonwealth Office Scholarship, in association with British Council and the University of Leeds to pursue a Masters in Music Performance (MMUS) degree. In 2009, Joanne completed her PhD studies with Heriot Watt University, United Kingdom, with a focus on music and consumer behavior.

While studying in the United Kingdom, she had the privilege to participate in several seminars and masterclasses held by prominent musicians. In the summer of 1998, she participated in the Aberswyth Music Festival in Wales, the celebrated Edinburgh Summer Festival and the Aberdeen Music Festival in Scotland. She was also given the opportunity to play an active role with the Sorrel Quartet during the Leeds Annual Music Festival 1999.

Among the awards Joanne has received include the Honouree for The Outstanding Young Malaysian Award 2004 under the category of Personal Improvement and Accomplishment, Martell’s Rising Personality Award 2008 and a nominee for the National Academic Award 2009. Joanne is also a fully accredited examiner for the esteemed Trinity Guildhall Music Examination, London. Presently she lectures at the Music Department of the Universiti Putra Malaysia.

 

Chong Yew Yoong


Dr. Chong Yew Yoong holds the DMA degree from the University of Alabama, M.Mus degree from Southern Illinois University and the BFA(Hons) degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He is also the holder of the ATCL, LTCL, LGSM and Dip(HKAPA) diplomas. Additional studies were in Hungary, England, Canada and Italy.

Dr. Chong has won the Elizabeth Hamner Award and was a frequent soloist on PBS-TV channel. Some of the famous teachers he studied with at masterclasses and studio lessons include Orlando Cole, Alan Stepanski, Karine Georgian, Anshel Brusilow, Brodsky Quartet, Stephen Hough and Yakov Kasman. As an orchestra cellist, he has played as principal cellist in the Southern Illinois Symphony, Venice Symphony, Hong Kong Symphonia. As a conductor, he has been the music director of the Winter Lake Orchestra and Lam Woo Orchestra. He has also performed with popular musicians like Sammi Cheng, Kelly Chen, Mawi and Siti Nurhaliza.

Dr. Chong is currently an Associate Professor at UITM. Previously, he was the head of the music department at Universiti Malaya. In addition, he has been a faculty member at Polk College in Florida, Sewanee Summer Music Festival and UCSI.

 

Lim Pei Sien

Dr Pei-Sien Lim received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from West Virginia University. She was granted scholarships and graduate assistantships throughout her studies at WVU, including the Higher Education Resource Fund Top-Off Fellowship, and was
awarded the Outstanding Music Student Award by WVU Music Alumni Association. She studied piano with Dr. James E. Miltenberger.

Pei Sien was a winner of Pittsburgh Concert Society’s 2002 Major Audition, MTNA Collegiate Artist Piano Competition in the State of WV, and WVU Young Artist Competitions. As a collaborative pianist, she has worked with various singers and instrumentalists; and she was a staff accompanist in the summer programs of American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan. As a chamber musician, Pei Sien is actively exploring and performing piano trio and two-piano repertoires.

Dr. Lim is currently a senior lecturer at UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur. She is the coordinator of Chamber Music Ensemble and a member of the Senate Standing Committee for Quality Assurance and Enhancement.

 

Pei Ann Yeoh


Pei Ann began her music studies at the age of 4, first with the piano and then the violin at age 7. She received her Fellowship Diploma from Trinity College London in both solo piano and violin performance in 2004. She then left Malaysia to pursue her Bachelor of Music at Queensland Conservatorium, Australia which she completed in 2007. Following that, Pei Ann pursued further studies at Birmingham Conservatoire, United Kingdom for the Graduate Diploma in Jazz (2009) and degree in Masters of Music (2010). She is comfortable in both Classical and Jazz styles, as well as popular and contemporary music.

During her time in Australia, Pei Ann performed regularly with the Latin Jazz Ensemble and New Music Ensemble of Queensland Conservatorium, having had the opportunity to work with world-famous musicians and being tutored by Australia’s leading musicians. Among the notable festivals she has participated in are the Brisbane Film Festival, Southbank Jazz Festival, and Red Note Cafe Series. She also performed at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) for the sold-out production of “Macbeth: A Contemporary Rock Opera”.

In the United Kingdom, Pei Ann leads her own jazz band “TriYeoh” and klezmer-inspired ensemble “A Touch of Klez” at various venues around Birmingham city. She participated in the Louis Andriessen Frontiers Plus Festival, performing with “Decibel”. Most notably, she had the opportunity to work with and be coached by renowed jazz bassist, Dave Holland, as part of his guest artist residency at Birmingham Conservatoire.

Pei Ann enjoys playing music from different cultures and genres, exploring traditional instruments, and listening to a diverse range of music from medieval chants to movie soundtracks. She plays badminton recreationally and drinks copious amounts of teh tarik.
