Showcase Anak Johor

Showcase Anak Johor -  a gathering of local singers , musicians and bands.

Johor’s very own talents will come together in Showcase Anak Johor, performing music across different languages and genres. This year, Showcase Anak Johor will feature four bands:

Orkes Nirwana Johor Bahru


Orkes Nirwana Johor Bahru is in the Malaysian Book of Records as the longest surviving band in the Malaysian music industry. The Pop Yeh Yeh band was formed way back 47 years ago in 25 March 1965 here in Johor Bahru. Pop Yeh Yeh was a genre popular in the 1960s, where the music and fashion of The Beatles and other British rock and roll bands influenced the Malay music industry of the period. The term Pop Yeh Yeh was derived from a line from The Beatles hit, She Loves You, `she loves you, yeah-yeah-yeah’. Today, the band, led by Dato A Rahman Hassan, is one of the few remaining true Pop Yeh Yeh band, and remain active and at the center of the Pop Yeh Yeh scene, carrying the tradition for young and old.

Orkes Nirwana is made up of Datuk A. Rahman Hassan (guitar and vocals), Datin Azizah Mohamad (vocals), E. Elias (bass), B. Badron (guitar), T. Tajudin (drums), Ilmy Rahman (tambourine). The band’s most famous hits include Tak Mengapa, Semoga Berjaya, Hanya Untukmu, Perpaduan Hidup and Kerana Fitnah.

The Wanderers


Formed in early 1965, The Wanderers has performed numerous concerts and parties at the popular Diamond Jubilee Hall, Johor Bahru and other roadshows in the state of Johor. Subsequently, they were also engaged to play at Tea-Dances in Johor Bahru and Singapore, and also cut an EP over at Singapore. Currently The Wanderers only perform for dorporate functions, Rotary Club Installations/
Dinners, Christmas and Year-End Countdown events. Our line-up comprise James Theng (Founding Member), Ms Juliet Raj (Singer), Barry Yeoh (Keyboards), Robin Lim (Bass), Zulkifli Noriman (Lead) and Hanis (Drums). Their repertoire of songs covers mainly popular hits of the 60′s, 70′s, 80′s, 90′s and the current hits as well.

Guitarman and Friends


Guitarman is a guitar instructor, having been in the industry for about 19 years. He also founded My Guitar Room Music Studio with. From year 2008 Guitarman began to perform solo instrumental music. He also formed Guitarman and Friends with three others – Birdy, Bonito and Fong In year 2009, Guitarman’s debut EP, Gold Old Day, was released. The band often performs in local Chinese indie band gigs. In 2012, Guitarman is preparing to release his 2nd EP, while the band continues to perform on the local indie scene.

Guitarman and Friends will also be performing at Danga Beach, Danga Bay on 8th September, 8.30pm

Cross


Cross is a six-piece band from Kulai formed in 2006, and comprises a drumer, a keyboardist, a bassist, two guitarists and a vocalist. They have participated in many kinds of live band performances such as Christmas countdown parties, wedding functions, café liveband shows and many others. The band will also be performing live at the Lantern Festival at Southern College on 3 rd September 2011.

Cross is known for its versatility, with their performances spanning genres such as slow rock, heavy metal, soft ballad and pop, and also various languages such as Chinese, Cantonese, English and Malay.

Cross will also be performing at Danga Beach, Danga Bay on 8th September, 8.30 pm.
