Silat is a collective word for a Malay form of martial arts. Originally developed in Indonesia and Peninsula Malaysia, it is now also practices in Thailand, SIngapore, Brunei, the Phillipines, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam.

There are hundreds of different styles but they tend to focus on strikes, joint manupulation, throws, bladed weaponry or a combination of styles.

Silat is one of the sports included in the SEA Games.
