Lawrence graduated from the Malaysia Institute of Arts, majoring in Classical Guitar. However prior to his graduation in 2009, he had already achieved the first prize in the Diploma guitar solo competition at the Malaysian Youth Music Festival in 2008 and in 2009; he won the Gold Award at the same competition. Also in that year, he obtained the Associate Diploma in Music Performance (ATCL Recital) with Distinction. More awards followed in 2010 when he received an outstanding award from Trinity Guildhall.

Lawrence has performed as an award winner at the Trinity Guildhall Awards and Concert 2010; the Bel Canto concert series 2010 organised by the Classical Music Society of Selangor/Kuala Lumpur and recently, he was a semi-finalist in the 5th International Guitar Competition 2011 held in Singapore.

For the JB Arts Festival catch Lawrence as he plays a selection of works by Tarrega; Sor; Koshkin and Paul McCartney
