Junji Delfino is set to scintillate your jazz taste buds once again in an intimate evening with the inimitable David Gomes and his jazz trio at The 8th JB Arts Festival this July. Follow her journey through song and find out why this Jazzmamma is deeply ensconced as Malaysia’s First Lady of Jazz…

Featuring Junji Delfino on vocals, David Gomes on piano & vocals, Steve Nanda on drums, Julian Chan on saxophone.

The Journey of a Jazzmamma offers a peek at Junji’s life & her music. A journey which started 50 years ago in the Philippines. A journey which was fated to reach the shores of Malaysia to graciously unfold and mold her into the performer she is today.

This one-hour performance will include songs from her soon-to-be-launched album, Here I Am, as well as popular jazz standards that are close to her heart.

Appearing with Junji is the one & only David Gomes on piano and his band. David Gomes is widely acclaimed among Malaysian jazz enthusiasts as one of the foremost Malaysian jazz pianists/vocalists around today. This will be David Gomes’ fourth time performing in Johor Bahru. His first was in 2004, at the inaugural JSPA Johor Arts Festival and his second and third was at the 5th and 7th JB Arts Festival.

No novice in the music industry, David has travelled extensively in the span of two decades reaching as far as Holland, UK & Germany. He founded & led the only two Malaysian jazz outfits to perform at one of the world’s biggest music festivals, the North Sea Jazz Festival, in 1990 & 1991 respectively, performing on the same stage played on by jazz bigwigs Wynton Marsalis, Jack DeJohnette, John Pattitucci and renowned Academy Award and Grammy Award winner Herbie Hancock.

Jazz fans in Johor Bahru are in for a treat. Junji’s soulful voice and David’s wizardry on piano together with the rest of the band combine to harmonious perfection. More on Junji at http://junjidelfino.blogspot.com
